Bullying- Spirit Day

For many bullying is a word that brings up painful memories. I do think we run the risk of over using the word and politicizing it. If we do not talk about it, teach about it, the message could lose its power.

Bullying is about hate. It is about people striking out against those who are different, just so they can feel better about themselves. It takes the form sometimes as words, exclusion socially, gestures, physical violence and hate crimes and even murder.

Most people have been both bullied and a bully at sometime. It is not just about teaching ourselves and kids what to do when bullied, but about the ways we can even be a bully. We need as a society to embrace diversity,
inclusion and tolerance. We need to respect each other and value each other as human beings and fellow children of God. We need to truly live the golden rule- treat others the way we want to be treated and love our neighbors, even if they are different and we do not understand them.

Today is Spirit Day- it is recognized by wearing Purple. Lets support each other, lets stand against hate and the violence of bullying! Lets be advocates of mutual respect and Love!
