My two cents on the Boy Scouts issue

In reading about the Boy Scouts and both sides of the issue of accepting "gays" there are a few things, I wanna say. The issue isn't "gays", it's young men, who like all young men need affirmation, mentoring and positive role models in their life. In short like all people, they need to be loved. I was a Boy Scout, we never discussed sexuality. We played kick ball, went camping, earned badges, had positive male influences in our lives. Did I miss the sexuality badge? I don't think so. I was gay, and a scout. It never entered into any discussion, or was an issue. What I got was strong friendships and lessons for life.

This to me is like the church, that Christ commanded to share the Gospel, which is simply the Good News, that God loves you and wants a relationship with you. Not the new church message, that God hates gays and loves guns and republicans.

So many of my Gay brothers and sisters sacrifice their spirituality, simply because of a misguided church, that has hammered the wrong message for years. Must our young men also seek affirmation, else where? Is the church and Scouting message and mission so fragile that allowing gay people a place to seek direction and affirmation, going to destroy its very fabric?
Talk about building your foundation on the sand of Fear. I know this may sound angry and strong, but I have felt and seen the damage, this kind of intolerance and hate has done. I simply want to call it what it is!

Yes, I believe the church and scouting has the right in United States of America, to hold to their own beliefs. But so does all hate groups. Which I personally believe is not what either of these institutions where ever meant to be. But they do have that choice, but my hope and prayer is that they will, get back to the foundation of their purpose!
