Releasing the Power of Forgiveness

I was reading about forgiveness and praying about a situation in my life. As I prayed for someone and forgave them, I also forgave myself for my part in the situation. It is here that the true power of forgiveness is released.

Whenever you give forgiveness, you receive it for yourself. Whenever you withhold it to others, you withhold it to yourself. Whenever, there is a person or situation in our lives that needs forgiveness, we are connected to them or it and our action, born of Love or Fear, affects our lives as much as theirs.

Many times when we talk about forgiveness, we think of the other and their crime or offense and the sacrifice it will cost us, to let them off the hook, when in fact, the power we have, is to set ourselves free and break the negative power of fear in our lives. It is true, that we surrender our negativity and thoughts about the offender as in turn, it sets them free as well, but only if they forgive themselves, will they reap the benefit. We cannot control the actions or thoughts of others, but we can control the effect and power it has in our lives.

When we forgive someone or something, we should also purposely forgive ourselves for our part, wether great or small. I usually in my prayer, actually say out loud, " and I forgive myself for my part, and the feelings and thoughts I have held in my heart and mind about them". After which, Love restores Peace in my heart and mind and I am free to move forward in my life.

There are many things in our life, that blocks the fulness of Life to be fulfilled in our lives. Many of these things are linked to things and story's we blame on others, or circumstances in our past. If we learn to unleash the true power of forgiveness for both them and ourselves, we can move forward into the fulness of Life that God wants for each of us!

Peace!
